More Brandi

I have been obsessed with Brandi Carlile since we saw her in concert in July. Here is why:

Mixed Messages

Before we were married I put this song on a mix that I gave Amber (yeah, I'm that cool). Not exactly sure what message I was trying to send.

Brandi Carlile

Amber and I went to see Brandi Carlile and the Avett Brothers a couple weeks ago at a small outdoor amphitheater in Wisconsin. Brandi killed it. She was amazing. She outshone the Avett Brothers by a mile, which would be unthinkable except for the fact that the Avett Brothers recently sold out, and their sound suffered as a result.

In Memory of Alvin Lee

A phenomonal and oft-overlooked guitarist by the name of Alvin Lee died yesterday. Just thought I'd share some of his music. The first two songs are from one of my favorite albums of all time. The last is his signature blues sound.

More Charlie Parr

Amber and I went to see this guy last Saturday. The show was phenomenal. When the show was at a fever pitch, and the drunk crowd was getting a little too rowdy, he played this song to calm things down. It was beautiful.

For an encore he played a frolicking revival tune. When he finished the song, everyone thought the show was over, but he launched into the next song. The only difference was that at our show, 500 people stomped and clapped in unison to the beat. Goose bumps.

Reckoning

Not videos. But these are my two favorite songs from my favorite Grateful Dead album.

More Peter Paul & Mary

John Denver

This is maybe my favorite John Denver song. It is one of the songs I sing to the girls most frequently at bedtime. When Maya was little(r), this song could always get her to settle down if she was rowdy at bedtime. It was like magic. She could be bouncing around in her bed, but the moment I started to sing this song she would lay her head down and relax. Thank you, John. Oh, and nice sweater.

Charlie Brown Getting Down

This is awesome.

A Perfect Playlist

I was driving home from a day of fly fishing in Southwestern Wisconsin earlier this week after midnight. The highways were empty, I was tired, it was one of those eerie moments, and this was the playlist on my local public radio station. Under the circumstances, it was a perfect playlist.
